A shank, tooth, and section of the bucket lip were snapped off during use.

Repair time:  4 hours

A crack in the corner of the bucket was also repaired.  It was discovered during cleanup of the previous welds and preparation for buildup of the bucket lip.  Once the bucket was restored, the shank was re-installed in it's original location.

The broken tooth when I arrived on-site.

The piece of bucket still in the shank was cut out, along with all the old weld deposits.  It was too small to reattach, so the bucket lip was built up to restore the original shape.

Here's a shot of the fracture surface.  Significant rust and signs of fatigue were evident.  This suggests that the tooth failed over time, not due to overloading all at once.

The bucket after partial cleanup prior to repair.  All the pits visible were scars from an earlier repair or modification.  Someone probably used an oxy-acetylene torch to cut off the original shank.  Those scars were filled with weld metal prior to re-installing the shank(see in the background, hanging from the bucket edge.)

A shot of the finished repair.  The corner of the bucket, just visible, was also repaired.  it was partially cracked.  The crack was ground out, and filled with weld deposit before the shank was re-attached.
